GL Mappings in ConnectWise Manage define how data will be recorded in the accounting package. There are different levels in which the data can be driven into the accounting package that will provide different outcomes when viewing your Profit & Loss reports in the accounting package. There are a few different schools of thought when considering the level in which you will break down your GL account mappings.
How do I get there?
Inside ConnectWise Manage, navigate to System > Setup Tables > GL Account setup table
What do I do?
It is important to initially understand the options ConnectWise Manage offers, and then take advantage of them. During you're onboarding process, you are given a GL Mapping Spreadsheet via Google Drive. This sheet helps define the different levels each account type can be broken out by.
This is the easiest to setup, and requires no maintenance. Usage Example: You only want to see top line information, such as "Revenue" and "Expenses", you will use ConnectWise Manage for all detailed financial reporting to measure financial performance from within your revenue and expense lines.
This setup is detailed at the work group/department level from ConnectWise Manage, and requires some maintenance. This would offer breakdowns like 'MSA Revenue' and 'Service Revenue'.
Detailed level mapping inside ConnectWise Manage requires ongoing maintenance as it allows for mapping at specific product categories and sub-categories. This means very specific mappings for different kinds of product sales can be configured and used for more detailed reporting in the accounting package.
Please remember to map to account numbers instead of account names for Wise-Sync (despite ConnectWise Manage documentation). For more information on completing the GL Account setup table, check out this ConnectWise Manage University link.
Once you've decided how to break down your mappings, these can be inserted into the planning GL Mapping sheet shared with you and then plugged into ConnectWise Manage. For more information about the GL Mapping sheet, watch this Activation Video:
